"Many weekends
ago we had been touring through Bobcaygeon and heading back to
Whitby when we saw a sign at the side of the road with the words
"Smoked Trout" written on it. With the screech of brakes
we came to a halt and backed up to read the sign. We turned around
and headed down January Lane to investigate.
There we saw an idyllic
setting, so peaceful and appealing, and met and chatted with such
nice people, that immediately a seed was planted within us. One
day we would return to camp there in that tranquil setting, away
from the hyped-up, maddening crowds of commercial campgrounds
and trailer parks, away from the city rat race and away from boats!
We got some information from Grant, to keep for future reference,
and bought some smoked trout. When we left there we drove through
Omemee, where we bought some crusty bread and went down to the
lakefront and feasted! Oh, what a feast!
Well we have fulfilled
our wish. We went out and got the camping gear, called and made
the arrangements, and lo and behold we have just spent the most
idyllic week we have had in quite some time. A much needed rest
for us both. The music of the many birds and forest creatures,
the fireflies at night, the long walk through the farmers' fields
and the sounds of the jumping fish were all lullabies to our ears.
Relaxation to the max!
Alas, the time has
come to return to work and what others call "reality",
although we all know that this past week is what reality is all
about! We would sincerely like to thank you for the warm welcome,
which made us feel at home, and for allowing us the privilege
of camping here
and to warn you that you have NOT
seen the last of us yet, because we WILL be back before winter
sets in."

On the way back from doing an errand to Peterborough today
I noticed a new sign for a Trout Farm about 10 minutes drive
from my house. Well, being the curious guy that I am I decided
to investigate.
It is a small but absolutely beautiful! "Kawartha Lakes
Trout Farm" on January lane off of Sturgeon Rd. just South
of #36. Grant, the owner, just opened about three weeks ago
and we had a wonderful talk. His current rates are $5.00 admission
(7 and under are free). Fish caught must be kept (cost $.65/inch)
Prices include your catch being cleaned and packed on ice, worms
supplied, rods can be rented for $2.50/day. There are also washrooms
available, a picnic area, and a snack bar. (Pop, chips, hotdogs
etc.)
What a great day out.
